The Treble

Cast: 1906 by Mears & Stainbank Weight: 4-0-03 (204 kg) Diameter: 27½” (70 cm) Strike Note: F
Inscription: MEARS & STAINBANK,FOUNDERS,LONDON.

 

New Treble The Treble is the lightest bell in the tower hung for full-circle ringing. Only the sanctus bell is lighter.
The waist of the bell carries an additional inscription as follows:

A.D. 1906.
IN MEMORY OF CHARLES CLARENCE CORBETT,LIEUT:DURHAM LIGHT
INFANTRY, WHO DIED IN INDIA, 1896. THIS BELL IS GIVEN BY HIS
MOTHER,HIS BROTHERS WALTER AND GODFREY,HIS SISTERS NINA,
CARRY,MABEL,ELEANOR AND KATIE,AND HIS AUNT C.H.DICKSON,
ALL OF GREENFIELD, PRESTEIGNE

“WHEN SWEETLY CHIMES THIS BELL,
O’ER SEA AND HILL AND DELL,
MAY JESUS CHRIST BE PRAISED.”

The treble headstock was replaced in the early 1970s with the cast iron version shown in the photo below.
